Cuban dancers wearing colorful kimonos performing a contemporary dance piece Brutal choreographed by Nelson Reguera

Brutal

Brutal” is a contemporary dance piece that highlights the ability of humans to adapt and survive in limited spaces with new rules of constrained living.

Isolation, destitution, fear, suffering, death… Its author, Nelson Reguera was inspired by the chaos generated by the Covid pandemic.

This piece is certainly the product of the personal experiences of each of the artists and of the choreographer during this period, but also the representation of the collective. The whole is something other the sum of its parts, the choreographer seems to be telling us. The main idea addresses their alienations, their contradictions and their struggles in a small, constrained space, constrained by the pared-down set design. “The bodies collide, come together and embrace each other. bodies collide, come together, embrace and then struggle once again to survive.

The show evokes feelings of despair, hope and resilience in a way that is both powerful and stimulating. Brutal takes the audience on an imaginary journey that reveals how we can find strength even in times of tragedy and uncertainty.
